Projects of the Volunteer Centre

Ystradgynlais Tool Store

The Tool Store, situated at the rear of the Volunteer Centre on Station Road, is manned by volunteers and is open on Thursdays and Fridays of every week, from 09:30 to 3 p.m.

Services offered to the public include the sharpening and rehandling of tools, plus the cutting of keys, all at a reasonable price. We also sell gardening, and some mechanical, tools which we have reconditioned or rehandled.

Volunteers are always welcome to learn new skills, or to put existing skills to a use which benefits the community.

The Tool Store combines community services, and recycling, with involvement in Tools For Self Reliance, a nationwide charity which collects tools to send to Tanzania where they are used to establish workshops, forges and carpenters in order to allow communities to make their own items, and become self-reliant in the long run.

Ystrad Wood Store

The Ystrad Wood Store is a community-based recycling project, collecting wood from the community and using it to create new items, such as craft items, gardening items, or kindling & firewood, for sale at a reasonable price.

Manned by volunteers, the Wood Store offers the opportunity to learn new skills, and for those individuals with existing skills to use those in a worthwhile environment.

Ystradgynlais Volunteer Centre supports artists and craftsmen/women in the local community. There is a monthly craft sale at the Volunteer Centre, where artists and craftspeople can display and promote their goods.

In our sales area, we always have items such as kits, painting-by-numbers and artist materials which are for sale to the public at a reasonable price.

Mobility Scooters

The Volunteer Centre owns and maintains two mobility scooters for use by those in need within the local community.
